The University of Nebraska Omaha began as the University of Omaha a private college established in 1908. In 1968 UNO became a state institution when the Municipal University of Omaha merged with the University of Nebraska. As Nebraska’s metropolitan University UNO is characterized by its strong academic foundations and creative community relationships that transform and improve the lives of constituents the region and the nation.
